2010 Goals

February 15th, 2010

  1. New job (with very long-term potential)
  2. Get back into Muay Thai training at Mike Miles Muay Thai & Kickboxing LTD
  3. Tighten up code at Cinephile Magazine (perhaps a redesign?)
  4. Consistently record & release Cinephile Spoilers podcast episodes
  5. Review two films per week for Cinephile Magazine
  6. Read one New Yorker magazine per week (they’re coming in faster than I can finish them)
  7. Read one novel per month (or quicker)
  8. Manage the thousands of digital photos I’ve accumulated over the years (edit, print, organize)
  9. Develop a seamless backup solution for my digital content (while the thought of off-site backup is appealing, its practice is simply too slow and cumbersome)
  10. Take over Safi Inc. duties I currently outsource (accounting, annual minutes, etc.) to save money, and to learn about the processes
  11. Decide whether I’m a Mac or Windows person :) I can be both, right?

Eyes Wide Shut: A Christmas Classic

December 8th, 2009

Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut was received with mixed reviews when it debuted in 1999, and in my opinion, highly underrated. It’s a terrific piece of filmmaking – haunting, intelligent, surreal, and at times even funny. I was pleased to see the following article today, courtesy of Sunset Gun:

Which brings me to the final line of Kubrick’s frequently misunderstood Eyes Wide Shut in which Nicole Kidman states rather flatly, “Fuck” — as in, that’s the answer, that’s what we need to do. A movie I’ve defended since its release, it’s a picture that deserves closer inspection and a worthy finale for the enigmatic auteur.
